Holiday
Cards

Since I was a teenager I made a list of all the Christmas cards I sent out, and noted those I received. The following is a complete list of my records as far back as I kept them. After the Holidays, at the end of January, I place all of the cards in a large manila envelope and stash them with the rest of my treasures.
In about 1959 I began making my own cards using a variety of techniques, from personal black and white drawings reproduced by way of a copying machine, to those in color using a spirit master process and that delightfully smelling liquid! This personalization continued throughout the period of my studies in Europe. Upon my return to the USA, life did not allow me the time/energy to continue, until 2001, when my Mac computer helped me restart my old tradition. If and when I have the time I hope to link some images of these handcrafted cards to their respective years.
My cards are usually sent out on 1 December. The virtual Internet cards and / or emails received are NOT included in the following table -- I do not send them but have received a bunch over the past few years. They are way too impersonal, according to my Weltanschaung.
I used to include a sort of long extra page with each card, highlighting what I considered the most important things for me during the foregoing year -- that single page side went to two sides -- with the advent of the WWW and my activity online I now include much more information and commentary on this web site in my frequently updated YearEndSummary [link below] -- as well as a yearly Christmas page.

The missing data for 1978 may be in my files in Tenerife.
The only two years in which I did not send a single card since I was 16 years old were 1999 and 2000. The previous year I had several returned due to the death of the recipient, which may have depressed me just a tad?
That, coupled with my premature retirement as a science teacher due to colon cancer and a chronic bad hip due to an earlier auto accident, leading to a miserly 60% early retirement pension , forced me to survive on whatever eBay sales brought in, which entails an extraordinary amount of time and effort needed to try to keep several items listed throughout the year just to help pay the recurring bills -- which left me precious little time for other personally more important things
