January

Me at my birthday party at George's new home in Norristown, Pennsylvania. I told you I like bears!

- we had several days off from school for SNOW -- WOW, just like the old days! Last year I predicted unusual weather for this year, due to low solar activity. If the new minimum for this 11-year cycle occurs in 1997, we should also experience more of the same or worse unusual weather in 1997!

- I finally began my autobiography, finishing Parts 1 through 4 of "Remembrances of Skies Past", taking me from prebirth until graduation from high school. Just a working draft copy

February

- finished Part 5 of RSP, including my Villanova University years

- Mistanguette, the Sphynx cat had her first litter, three kittens; 1 died; kept one, a male: Ataturk

- Yakshini, the youngest Siamese had her second litter, 6 kittens

- went to my first Philadelphia Flower Show -- my Mother went every year. It was impressive, but I sort of expected more!

March

- saw Il Postino at Princeton Market Square

- had my first beef tongue for dinner-- was excellent

- Shiva had 5 Siamese kittens

- saw Comet Hyakutake from the back yard; held a special science activity at school to view the comet; viewing certificates presented-- my usual attention to details!

April

- my first trip to Dallas and Hughes Springs, Texas, the farthest west I have ever been! Had to go to Planet Hollywood; saw an ostrich farm, my first longhorns, the Art Deco fairgrounds and a real country auction

- one of my student's Science Fair projects was withdrawn: "The Strength of Different Condom Brands". It hit the newspapers and the radio. STUPID ADMINISTRATORS!! But being this city, nobody stands up for anything here!!

May

- finally got my own aol (America On-Line) account : HELIOSci1@aol.com

- began using the pond pumps / filters again after a good cleaning of the 3 ponds -- all the fish survived the winter! AND they were larger!

June

- added an ultraviolet water clarifier to the ponds. The water cleared up within 2 days! Now I can see all the fish again!

- unbelievable storm with half-inch hail -- never experienced a storm like this!

- Yakshini had 5 Siamese kittens -- incidentally, I seem to mention kittens a lot -- I sell them at $145 a pop, with papers, and they are usually gone in 4 days (after they are about 8 weeks old)

- school ended for another school year

- a friend of the next door neighbor gave me a LARGE Butterfly Koi, at least 16" long, larger than any of its poolmates

- changed the future "darkroom" to a storage area. Got three 5-drawer legal filing cabinets and some others-- they are all full already!

July

- Mistanguette had 3 Sphynx kittens, her second litter

- went to Tenerife (Canary Islands/Spain) for the first time in 5 years, since Evelio died and I went to his burial there. The house was in great shape.

Spent the 3 weeks painting and cleaning -- did not even see the ocean except from the plane! Saw Horacio, a former student, now a Ph.D. in biochemistry, for the first time in over 10 years; also met his wife, Imma. Elena, the artist, visited several times -- she did the poster for the 1996 carnivals in Tenerife -- she began a really cool new series of bodegones (still lifes)

August

- returned from Tenerife

- Shiva had three Siamese kittens

- got a Mustek Twainscan II SP scanner-- now I can copy text and photos onto the computer-- another diversion!

- began painting the outside of this house -- scraping, patching, priming, painting -- finding spots that were not "acceptable", painting again -- and again. What fun!

- REstarted the love of my life -- my fossil collection , which I began in about 1954, at the age of 14. Began using File Maker Pro for the catalogue and labels. Now the fun really begins!

- began planning the first of three fossil exhibits for school

September

- school begins again-- my 14th year!

- Yakshini died suddenly while pregnant (my youngest Siamese female <Born 24 October 1994 - Died 9 September 1996>, named after the Thai Goddess of Fertility). Brought her upstairs from her basement "apartment" with Chucky (the male), and within minutes found her making strange noises on the kitchen floor and klunk, she was dead in my arms. Buried her in the garden behind my study

- Kathy, a friend of B's from Zele, Belgium arrived for a one and a half week visit. Brought piles of unbelievably scrumptious Belgian chocolates. A most delightful girl.

October

- started giving the cats their "usual" shots! Ordered the vaccine and syringes. Costs LOADS less than taking them to the vet for shots.

- set-up the Palaeontology exhibit at school (catalogue enclosed )

- loaded the aol Version 3.0 on the ole computer. It is brighter and a bit more complicated than the old Version 2.7, B U T it has several "bugs" that bothered me, so I went back to the old version

November

- had to get a new muffler for the Festiva. It had sounded like a tank for several months.

- Thanksgiving came and went without a turkey, for the first time I can remember -- at least when I have been here in the States.

- It finally starts to get colder!

- began using the new QUICKEN 7, which includes online banking

- John Manzak died < 2 July 1911 - 9 November 1996 >. He was a neighbor who always came to my cook-outs, and was very active for his 85 years! He took me once on his biweekly trips to the Atlantic City casinos, and to the Russian Orthodox Church which he attended on Saturdays.

December

- only painted the front of the house, and 15 windows.Next year the rest!

- signed on for the 2-year aol plan. Now I can be on the WEB forever! BUT aol MUST do a major upgrade of their installations or go under! They have more members BUT not the infrastructure to handle them all well!

- Principal at school tries to eliminate me -- it might even work!

Here's hoping that the holidays

will be exceptionally joyous,

and that the coming year

will be the best ever in all ways.
